T-Shirt Design Contest: Paw-louse 5k

Our annual Paw-louse 5k is coming up soon, and we're on the hunt for a unique design to show off on race T-shirts! We're hosting an art contest in an effort to see a wide array of styles and designs. If you're an artist, and you love pets, then we strongly encourage you to submit a design! 



The winning design will be chosen via Facebook voting. The design with the most "Likes" (total reactions) when voting ends will be selected as our winner!

The artist of the winning design will receive a finished T-shirt with their printed artwork, along with free registration for the race (if desired). Our winning artist will also receive plenty of recognition on our website, social media, and newsletter! The winning design will be printed on more than 100 shirts and distributed to racers, who are mostly local. You can look forward to seeing your design "out in the wild" for years to come!

Here are some details you should know: 

​Schedule/Deadlines

  • Submissions open Monday, April 15th

  • Submissions close Friday, May 10th at 5:00pm

  • Voting begins Monday, May 13th

  • Voting ends Friday, May 24th

Design Rules/Guidelines

  • Anyone can submit an entry!

  • All designs must be family-friendly

  • All designs must feature at least one dog

  • All designs must be signed by their artist

  • All designs must be printable in a single color (either black or white)

    • Limit small details​

    • Best to design in a single color!

The Fine Print

By submitting an entry, the artist consents that it is their own original work and that they have all necessary rights and permissions to use any included elements. The 5k event team reserves the right to make adjustments and alterations to the winning entry. The winning artist grants to Humane Society of the Palouse (HSoP) the exclusive right to the design, including any modifications thereof, to be used on promotional/marketing and other HSoP materials. The artist shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless HSoP from and against any and all suits, actions, claims, damages, liabilities, judgments, losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of any violation of third party rights (including, without limitation, intellectual property infringement, misappropriation, dilution or violation) in connection with the HSoP's use, distribution, publishing, sale or exploitation of the design. No submissions will be returned.

Your design could be featured this year! 

Here's some background information about the 5k to help you brainstorm: 

The first Paw-louse 5k Fun Run & Walk took place on June 11th, 2011. The route has traditionally followed Paradise Path through UI campus, but this year, we're planning the 5k along Latah Trail headed toward Troy and back. The event has always been dog friendly, of course! We usually see at least half of our racers bring a canine friend along for the fun. The most important part of the 5k is the benefit it has for local pets in need! All proceeds from the 5k directly support Humane Society of the Palouse and the hundreds of lost and homeless pets we care for each year. The 5k is one of our beloved and highly anticipated annual fundraisers, with plenty of participants who've enjoyed it for several years running (no pun intended!). The Paw-louse 5k is open to people of all ages and abilities. Whether you run, walk, roll, bike, or jog the 5 kilometers, every step forward is made with the intention of helping pets in need.
