$10 off Basic Obedience for dogs adopted from HSOP within the past 12 months

**Dogs must be good with other dogs. Dogs must be at least 6 months old and fully vaccinated.

**No prongs or choke chains/slip collars in any class. The instructor can help you select an alternative.

Basic Obedience: 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

This class focuses on basic obedience skills. We also work on some important everyday life skills, such as not to bolt through doors, taking food politely from hands and "leave it." We keep class fun, teach a few tricks ("roll over," "spin") and games, while also teaching you how to proof a behavior. Class size limit 8.

Shy Dog: 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.

This class is for dogs who are nervous or shy in new situations, or around certain things, without being overtly reactive. A previous obedience class is not required. We will be teaching some obedience (at whatever skill level your dog is at). We will also be working on confidence-building exercises, like using nose targeting to learning moderate distance work, and trick work with (or without) objects, depending on the dog.

We will also go over dog body language so you can recognize when your dog is showing signs of stress, discuss what threshold is, and how desensitization and counterconditioning work.  We will set up scenarios in class so you can practice. Class size limit is 6.

Intermediate/Advanced: 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Does your "down"/"stay" work at home but nowhere else? Does your recall work sometimes or in certain places? Need some help with loose leash walking?  Maybe it’s time for a tune-up, to revisit and rework crucial commands.  We will also teach some fun tricks, with games specific to help rework your recall and stays.

For those of you who have taken your Canine Good Citizen (CGC), would you like to proof your dog, work on increasing your recall distances and "down"/"stay" distractions? The entire class will be working on the same things, some will just have an added degree of difficulty/distraction.

Dogs must be over a year old and fully vaccinated. Dogs must have taken a basic obedience class (puppy class does not count). Class limit 8

About the Instructor: Lyssa
About 10 years ago, she began training shelter dogs under the guidance of the shelter’s Obedience Instructor, Scott Smith. After 2 years, Lyssa began working independently with those dogs who had behavioral issues (dog aggression, fear based issues, etc). She continued working with these dogs for approx 5 years. She is versed in clicker training and other positive-based training methods.

When Scott decided to retire in 2010 from teaching obedience after 15 years, Lyssa was given the opportunity to teach in his place and turned her attention to teaching classes. She has been teaching since 2010, taking 2015 off for medical reasons.

We are not currently offering dog obedience classes, but hope to be able to offer them again soon!
